What funeral services are guaranteed?

The all important part of the funeral plans review that helps you understand whether your family will have anything left to pay when the time comes:

  • Guaranteed Services

As with the Dignity plan, all of the Age UK Funeral Plans ensure that services included for a cremation funeral are fixed at today’s prices, with nothing more to pay in the future.

  • Service Not Guaranteed

The plan includes a full guarantee for cremation services however if you prefer burial, then the Age UK funeral includes a guarantee for the funeral directors services and an allowance of £1,220 for burials costs. This would include help with the actual interment fees, a burial plot, headstone or the minister’s fees.

What’s more, this allowance increases each year in line with RPI and if there is any money left over, it is actually paid back to the family or the estate.

Will there be more for my family to pay when the time comes?

All of the services included in the prepaid funeral plan for a cremation service are completely guaranteed with nothing more to pay – no matter when it is in the future.

The Age UK funeral plan doesn’t include payment for a second doctor’s certificate if that is required however the law is soon to change which means this will not be relevant in the near future.

For burial fees, there is an allowance of £1,220 or whatever that has increased to over the years as it has grown in line with inflation. Depending on the total cost, the family would need to pay any balance if the burial costs are higher than the allowance included in the plan.

How can I pay for my funeral plan?

With a Single Payment

You can choose to pay in one go or spread your payments over 12 months without incurring any additional fees. This is the cheapest way to buy an Age UK funeral plan.

Monthly Instalments

If you prefer to spread your costs over a longer period, then instalment options are available between 1 and 25. You do need to have completed the payments by the time you are 85 which will dictate the length of the instalment terms available to you.

You do incur additional administration fees for spreading your costs over a longer period but you also have the flexibility to make additional payments if you have spare cash at any stage, which will in turn bring these costs down.

Is there an age limit for Age UK funeral plans?

You have to be at least 50 years of age to be eligible for an Age UK funeral plan. There is no upper age for payment in full or over 12 months however there is the 85 year threshold as mentioned for monthly payment funeral plans.

Can I choose either a Burial or Cremation funeral?

The Age UK Funeral plan can be used for either cremation or burial services.

Can I cancel my funeral plan?

When you buy an Age UK Funeral plan you automatically receive a 30 day ‘cooling off period’ when you can cancel the plan if it is not to your liking and receive a full refund.

Thereafter, Age UK have one of the lowest cancelation fees on the market of £95. So if you choose to cancel after the 30 day review period, you receive all of your money back minus the cancelation fee of £95.

Who will my funeral director be?

Your funeral director will be one of the 1,300 funeral directors Dignity use. These are comprised of approximately 800 privately owned Dignity funeral directors and 500 approved independents who accept Dignity funeral plans.

The only exception is with the Basic Plan, where the funeral director has to be one of the 800 Dignity owned companies.

What happens if I move?

If you move, just let Dignity know your new address (anywhere in the UK) and the plan will be moved at no extra cost.

Do Age UK funeral plans offer any additional features?

The main feature with Age UK funeral plans as with Dignity Funeral Plans is that you receive a full guarantee for the cremation services included in the plan, this means the family will never have more to pay.

In addition if you choose the burial option, any remaining allowance that isn’t used for burial costs will be returned to the family or the estate.
