Who is Safe Hands?
Safe Hands was founded in 2013 in close alliance with the relatively new trade body the National Federation of Funeral Directors (NFFD), working in association with funeral directors who are registered with them. as well as other trade bodies such as SAIF (Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors), NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors) and the BIFD (British Institute of Funeral Directors).
They are the only prepaid funeral plan provider to be registered with the NFFD and as of July 2019 are now registered with the Funeral Planning Authority.
What plans do they offer?
Safe Hands offer 5 plans that provide a range of funeral services – 2 referred to as Basic Plans, the other 3 referred to as Inclusive Plans. For the purpose of this review, we will be concentrating on the Safe Hands Direct Cremation plan only:
The Safe hands Direct Cremation Plan – This direct funeral plan offers a simple cremation without a funeral service. Working in association with a funeral director chosen at the time of need by Safe Hands, the plan includes collection of the deceased anywhere in the UK, a simple veneered coffin, the cremation fees and doctor’s fee if still applicable and return of the ashes to a designated person.
With this direct funeral plan the funeral director and crematorium are chosen by Safe Hands when the time comes, therefore their services may or may not be local to you.
You can find out more about direct cremation and how it works on our main direct cremation page.
Will there be more for my family to pay when the time comes?
The Safe Hands direct funeral plan includes a full guarantee for the services included so their shouldn’t be any more for the family to pay at the time of need, however they may need to pay for the collection of ashes if a courier service is required.
How can I be sure my money is safe?
When you buy a Safe Hands Direct Cremation plan your money is held in a trust fund which is a completely separate entity to the company. Therefore if anything were to happen to Safehands, the trust fund with your money in it remains intact, ready to pay for your direct cremation services.
With a Single Payment
The cheapest way to buy a Safehands direct funeral plan is either in one go or over 12 or 24 months as you don’t incur any additional fees. The total price for any of these options is £1,895.
If you want to stick to a budget and prefer to spread your costs, then instalment options are available over 3, 5 and 10 years. Each of these payment options are subject to a 4% instalment handling charge which is calculated annually.
Can I cancel the plan?
When you buy a Safe Hands direct funeral plan you have a 30 day period where you can review the details and if you are not entirely happy, you can cancel the plan and receive a full refund. If you cancel the direct cremation plan after this period you will receive all your money back minus their fee of £249.
What happens if I move address?
If you move, the plan moves with you as long as your new address is still within the UK. The terms of your plan are not affected in any way and there is no increased risk that there may be additional costs to pay when the time comes.
