Who is Perfect Choice?

This funeral plan review will focus on Perfect Choice funeral plans, provided by the UK based financial services group Ecclesiastical Planning Services which is part of the Ecclesiastical Group.

Their plans are carried out by accredited firms that accept Perfect Choice funeral plans and that are members of the National Associate of Funeral Directors (NAFD).

What funeral plans do Perfect Choice offer?

Perfect Choice offers 4 levels of prepaid funeral plans, the ‘Basic’, ‘Simple’, ‘Traditional’ and ‘Complete’ plan in addition to a ‘Personal Plan’ that can be tailored to suite your own personal requirements. For the purposes of this funeral plan review we will concentrate on the 4 set funeral plans.

Perfect Choice Basic Plan – Includes the funeral director’s help and advice with the documentation; funeral services on the day, a hearse and a simple coffin.

There is no provision for third party cremation or burial fees which currently account for around 30% of funeral costs so these will need to be paid for by the family at the time of need.

Perfect Choice Simple Plan - Includes the funeral director’s help and advice with the documentation; funeral services on the day, a hearse and a simple coffin.

This plan also includes a £1,150 contribution to help with cremation or burial fees.

Perfect Choice Traditional Plan - Includes the funeral director’s help and advice with the documentation; funeral services on the day, a hearse, a veneered coffin, use of the chapel of rest for viewing and one limousine.

This plan also includes a £1,150 contribution to help with cremation or burial fees.

Perfect Choice Complete Plan - Includes the funeral director’s help and advice with the documentation; funeral services on the day, a hearse, a superior veneered coffin, use of the chapel of rest for viewing and two limousines.

This plan also includes a £1,150 contribution to help with cremation or burial fees

Which funeral services are guaranteed?

One of the most important parts of the funeral plans review to help you understand what funeral costs are included and what will need to be paid for at the time of need:

Guaranteed Services

All of the Perfect Choice funeral plans include a full guarantee for the funeral directors services so you’re family won’t have anything further to pay for the service, hearse, coffin and depending on the level of service a limousine.

Please note that the option for family to view the deceased is only included in the Traditional and Complete Plan.

Service Not Guaranteed

3 of the 4 Perfect Choice funeral plans, namely the Simple, Traditional and Complete plans come with a contribution of £1,150 for third party cremation or burial fees so there is no guarantee that these costs will be covered. Therefore there could be more to pay for these services when the time comes.

Please note the Basic plan does not include any provision for third party costs so these will need to be paid for in their entirety.

Will there be more for my family to pay?

Yes, there could be. As there is just a contribution of £1,150 in 3 of the plans your family could have more to pay for these services when the time comes.

Please note the Basic plan does not include any provision for third party costs so these will need to be paid for in their entirety.

How can I be sure my money is safe?

Another very important part of this funeral plan review is to note Ecclesiastical Planning Services is registered and regulated by the Funeral Planning Authority (FPA) so therefore has to abide by their strict rules and code of conduct.

When you buy a Perfect Choice funeral plan your money is paid into a guaranteed whole of life insurance policy that is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

How can I pay for my funeral plan?

With a Single Payment

You can pay for your Perfect Choice funeral plan in full or over 12 months and the costs will be the same.

Monthly Instalments

If you prefer to spread your costs over a longer period, instalment options are available over 24, 36, 48 and 60 months. There is a deposit which is usually considerably higher than with other funeral plan providers

Is there an age limit on the Perfect Choice Plan?

As long as you are at least 18 years old you can buy a Perfect Choice funeral plan; there is no upper age limit.

Can I choose either burial or cremation funeral?

The Perfect Choice plans mentioned in this funeral plan review are all for cremation services. Burial plans are available upon request.

Can I cancel my funeral plan?

When you apply for a Perfect Choice funeral plan you have 30 days in which to review the plan where you can cancel and receive a full refund.

If you cancel your funeral plan after this period the money you have paid into the plan will be refunded minus the management fee which is stated on your application form.

For online purchases, the management fee is currently charged at £160.

Who will my funeral director be?

Ecclesiastical state that they work in association with accredited funeral directors who are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors  or NAFD. (Not to be mistaken with the relatively new trade body the National Federation of Funeral Directors or NFFD)

Although the Perfect Choice information states that NAFD members account for over 80% of funerals carried out in the UK, there is no indication of how many of these are accredited and therefore accept Perfect Choices Plans; therefore there is no clear understanding of how widely accepted these plans are

What happens if I move home?

If you move, the company will endeavour to find another accredited funeral director local to your new address but there may be additional fees depending on their charges..

Do Perfect Choice funeral plans offer any additional features?

One of the main points of the Perfect Choice range of funeral plans is that your money is paid into a whole of life insurance plan; therefore although funeral plans aren’t regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority or FCA as it is more commonly referred to, the insurer behind the life insurance plan will be.

Our Perfect Choice funeral plans review verdict

Ecclesiastical Planning Group who provide the Perfect Choice funeral plans are registered with the Funeral Planning Authority and the way your money is handled is in accordance with the Financial Conduct Authority so this is a safe plan; however it is still a ‘contribution’ style plan which means your family could have more to pay for those essential third party costs.

Also when you apply your plan is placed with an accredited independent funeral director; if you then have to change to another accredited funeral director their charges may be different so you may be asked to pay more for the plan.

Therefore we feel there is a sense of uncertainty rather than a comprehensive guarantee with this plan.
